According to FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr,"With advances in smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices, patients no longer need to visit brick-and-mortar facilities or meet in person with a doctor to receive high-quality care." Commissioner Carr - who helped develop the program for telehealth expansion - also said in a press release last week:  
     "Increasingly, patients can receive care whenever and wherever they have an Internet connection - whether for video visits or tracking a range of medical conditions."
     "It's the healthcare equivalent of shifting from Blockbuster to Netflix," he added.

Congress Renews Funding for COVID-19
Telehealth Program

The federal government's latest COVID-19 pandemic economic relief package includes $250 million in funding for the Federal Communications Commission's COVID-19 Telehealth Program, which was established by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act and supported 539 projects before running out of money in July. The new funding allocation is accompanied by a mandate for stronger oversight of how funds are distributed, according to an analysis by law firm Foley & Lardner.
